#1 The three Keys to creating your authentic destiny

Your Authentic Self

Matthew ArmstrongHello,

Welcome to the first edition of the Be Your Potential newsletter.  I aim to provide you in this, and in all newsletters to come, with invaluable information on all major areas of life.  My purpose is to educate, inspire, and ultimately transform the lives of those who are committed to consistent higher standards of living. This I believe is you!  Because right now, you can choose to skip to your next email and forget about this or you can decide right now that Yes! I am that person who is committed to a higher standard and no matter how great my life is right now, I can still improve and I can still grow.  There is more to learn, there is another level and I choose to go there and achieve that.

With that said, I am going to go right ahead and hit you with the really important stuff, the stuff that causes effortless motivation, feelings of joy & happiness, a sense of total certainty, congruency and alignment throughout your entire being.  And first I have a question for you.

“Are you being your Authentic Self?”

To answer Yes to this, you must be experiencing all the feelings and emotions that I have stated above on a fairly consistent basis.
People often say “just be yourself” whenever we are nervous about an interview, first date, new job, etc.  It is usually said to us when we are about to do something for the first time, and it is actually an opportunity for us to really be ourselves.  The problem is who are we?  Who are we really?

We have been given so many labels and identities throughout our whole lives.  Firstly, there are our parents, who might say you are just like your father or mother over and over again.  So we start taking on that role, that identity.  We see what they do, say, behave and act like, and we copy it; or maybe we rebel against it and do the complete opposite.  The same happens with our teachers in school, our friends, people in our community, the media, people in our profession, and so on.  So we have a collection of identities that have been given to us mostly throughout childhood because we are more at effect during childhood and less at cause, meaning we have less choice.

As adults we believe we are stuck with that identity, which can cause unhappiness and misery because we are not being our authentic selves, and if we are not being ourselves then we are not being our potential.

So, who ultimately chooses who we are?  Is it all the people we have met throughout our lives, or is it us?  Every morning we wake up, we have a chance to create ourselves anew.  This brings us to the First Key to becoming your Authentic Self.

1. Become aware right now that you can choose your identity and that you can begin right now to align with what you choose.

You might say that’s all very well, but how do I choose the right one?  Well the answer is that there is no right one.  When the river flows from the mountain to the sea, does it stop mid flow and begin to procrastinate on which direction is the right way?  No, it simply flows and when it meets resistance, it changes direction and keeps flowing and no matter how much resistance and how many obstacles it encounters the water does not get fazed, it just continuously looks for the ‘path of least resistance’.   Which brings us to the Second Key.

2. Follow the path of least resistance.

And you may say, that sounds a bit ‘airy-fairy’: “I am a human being not water running down a hillside“.  Well actually you are physically more water than anything else, with recent studies showing that we are made up of 98% water, so the metaphor is very fitting!  To follow the path of least resistance, you must check in with your emotions and something known as your Emotional Guidance System.  Your Emotional Guidance System will direct you to being and living as your Authentic Self; if you listen to it, for it is always operating 24/7.  It’s just a matter of  tuning in, which we do by becoming aware, listening; and if we are feeling out of sorts about how something is going, we can simply alter our course until we start feeling the way we would love to feel and then stay the course!

Is there something that you do on a daily basis that you do not enjoy and conjures up some negative emotion, like maybe your job, or a relationship you are in that has run its course?  Whilst you carry on doing these things, you are not following the path of least resistance.  You are actually resisting your true nature by doing or being a certain way that is not in alignment with your highest values or aspirations.  “Let’s get realistic here, if I decide to leave my job tomorrow or stop cleaning my house, my life is going to look a lot less pretty“, and I agree.  This might be a six month process, which starts off internally and shows up in the outer environment over time.

So let’s start getting some clarity.  Write down on a page all the emotions that you feel throughout a  normal week that you don’t enjoy feeling.  And then write down underneath what it is you do, or don’t do, that makes you feel that way.  Now get another page and write down all the great and wonderful emotions that you would love to feel on a daily basis and then below that, what you would have to be thinking, saying, doing and being on a daily basis to experience those.  You can write such things as what your job or business would be, where you would live, who you would be with, who your friends would be, what interests you would have, how much money you would make, and so on.

So that first page is really who you are not, and the second page is who you are, and you can keep refreshing this as you become more of who you are. This now brings us to the Third Key to becoming your Authentic Self.

3. Daily Activity.

We must now act out all the great juicy stuff from the Second Key, are you with me?.  Start by acting out the positive, empowering and joyous emotions you wrote down, because you must first start to feel happy feelings in order to have happy experiences, and you must first feel gratitude and appreciation in your body in order to let those experiences and events that you would feel grateful and appreciative for flow into your life. In essence, you must start to vibrate at the frequency of the various things, people, events and situations that you wish to bring into your reality.  You must show the universal nature that you are serious and ready to attract that which you ‘are’ into the present. Does that make sense?.

Even if you work 12 hours a day in a job that you hate and feel stuck in, because if you leave it your whole family could become homeless and hungry, you can still effectively do this.  How???
Simply start by taking one hour each day: even if it means taking one hour less sleep to do this, it is worth it, and will move you closer to living as your Authentic Self.  If you have always wanted to write a book, then simply write continuously for 1 hour a day.  It might seem tough for the first few weeks, then something will happen… you will align with your higher self and your writing will flow. And in a matter of months you will be looking for a publisher and suddenly you will wonder what happened to that unhappy mask you were wearing. Where has it gone?  It believed it was stuck in the 12 hour a day job it hated and you believed you were it. When you start being your Authentic Self, YOU shine through: the masks crumble and your true brilliant identity emerges.  I know of an author who consistently writes five pages everyday.  He starts his day at 6am and is always finished by 10am.  Then he spends the rest of his day enjoying himself; playing tennis, meeting with friends, and doing whatever else makes him feel good.  Because he consistently does this, he has a new book on the shelves every six months.  That simple, and it pays for his desired lifestyle.  So, whatever it is for you to take that hour every day, if it’s an hour of exercise, meditation or studying, consistently do it everyday and it will soon start to expand to 2 hours to 3 hours. Even if it only increases by 20% a year of doing what you love, wouldn’t it be worth it?  The alternative is not worth looking at.  Be your Authentic Self and you will be your potential!

This is the manifestation process. To put it in simple terms: Step 1 is Thought: where you become aware that something needs to change and that you can change it. Step 2 is Word: and this is where you are writing down your thoughts and feelings and saying them as well. Step 3 is Deed: where you are acting out what you have thought, felt, wrote and said.  It is a simple three step process that can be used for anything in life.  Make that first hour today. Don’t excuse it, just do it!

Note: I would now ask you to immediately re-read all of the above out loud and in a tone as if you were teaching it to a young child. By doing this your unconscious mind will fully absorb it and you will gain an even deeper understanding.

With joy and gratitude,
Namaste

Our deepest fear is not that we are in adequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous , talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’ t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in every one. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
