The One Thing That Jedi’s, Ninja’s & Badasses DON’T Do!

To be able to do what we really love, we often have to let go of certain things in life, especially the things that drain our time and energy. If there is one unanimous thing that jedi’s Ninja’s and Badasses don’t do, it is watch TV!

It is estimated that the average American watches 3hours and 46 minutes of TV per day. In the UK it is slightly lower at 3 hours per day. Can you imagine if you took those three plus hours and actually focused them into mastering a craft? The results would be mind boggling!

Watching television is certainly the fast track way to mediocrity. Worse than that, it creates a hypnotised and numbed out society, not capable of critical thinking.

I was quite lucky as a child as I grew up on the south coast of Spain. We had two TV channels, which only seemed to show bull-fighting and basketball, so I never watched TV. I spent my time outside playing and going on adventures. We had the weather for it and the surrounding area was a perfect kids playground.

If I wasn’t on a skateboard, I would be on my BMX, exploring down by the river catching snakes, or playing on the beach and swimming in the sea.

People used to dump old TV’s down by the river and my friends and I used to stone them until the screen blew up. Inside we would find huge magnets, which we would remove and use for our own devices.

I don’t know if TV’s still have those huge magnets in them, but even back then I thought about how the secret magnet was locking on and pulling people in. We are aftr all electro-magnetic beings!

Have you ever noticed when you are in a room and there is a TV on, everyone seems to get sucked into it, even if what is showing is of no interest to them. This is the powerful hypnotic effect of TV’s.

As a teenager we moved to Ireland and suddenly we had four channels, all in English with zero bull-fighting. It rained almost everyday so I started spending much more time indoors watching TV. It was a great novelty at first, but soon I became addicted and would watch 5 or 6 hours per night.

We lived in the countryside and so any friends I had lived miles away. My routine was, get home from school, do 45 minutes martial arts training in a nearby forest or in my garage and then sit in front of the TV until bed time.

I did this religiously for four years until I left home and since then have never owned a TV, and twenty years later I still do not own a TV. You see, I looked back at those four years when I watched TV daily for 5-6 hours and I asked what did I learn from it. And what I learned was that I was glad that I at least took the 45 minutes everyday to do martial arts training.

When people ask me about my life and I tell them about the various things that I have done and achieved, they wonder how I have fitted it all in at such a young age. All I can think of is that I haven’t watched TV.

It is not just the time factor, but also when you watch TV your brain switches off and instead of thinking about living your own life you watch other people living their lives and then become too comfortable to do anything yourself.

I really can’t tell you in words what a powerful medium television is to control the masses into living a certain way. You must sit and contemplate it for yourself.

There are subliminal messages being transmitted into your unconscious mind constantly, through the commercials, news programs and through the sitcoms as well. In the US hundreds of junk food ads are broadcast every Saturday morning during childrens cartoons. The children will then unknowingly beg their parents to take them to some fast food outlet that weekend. Advertisers are some of the smartest and saviest people in the world.

I was shocked when I visited a friend in the US and noticed the massive amount of pharmaceutical commercials being broadcast. The adverts would actually instruct the viewer to go to their Doctor and ask for the specific drug being pushed. My friend didn’t see a problem with this, but then again he was in a deep hypnotic trance as a result of continuous bombardment from this weapon of mass deception known as television!

Seriously the best life changing decision you can make is to simply switch off the TV and sell it, take the money from the sale and invest it in something useful. If you watch three hours and forty six minutes of TV everyday like the average American then that is 52 days a year. With that time you could master something in your life.

Imagine 3 hours per day of practicing a musical instrument like piano, or doing a home study course, or practicing dance, or martial arts. This is the path to greatness. Anyone can be great in their lifetime and be known as a master and revered in their area of expertise. And for most it just takes a decision to switch off the TV and do it!

Some people tell me that television is educational and that they mostly watch educational programs. These people are deluding themselves. I have read single books and listended to audio courses that enriched my life more than the 6000 hours of TV I watched over four years as a teenager.

Just looking at what I just wrote there makes me shake my head with what could have been…6000 hours of TV as a teenager. I could have been fluent in Japanese or written a few books in that time.

The thing is that mainstream TV is heavily censored and they have an agenda, so if you really want to watch some educational documentaries on a particular subject then it is best to go online and search there.

We all need a bit of distraction, relaxation and fantasy at times otherwise we can burn out. Going for a walk or run in nature can distract us. Meditation can relax us and visualising our dream life can be our fantasy.

Don’t get me wrong, I am actually a movie buff and I love going to the cinema to watch a good movie a couple of times per month. I refuse to watch horror movies and haven’t seen one of the five “Saw” movies, because I just see them as pointless and filling my mind full of horrific and scary images.
I like to watch movies that are entertaining, uplifting and inspirational.

As a child I was inspired by the Rocky movies, Bruce Lee movies and Star Wars. After watching these types of movies I would go out and train so I could do what the characters in the movie did. I like to watch movies that give me a tingle up my spine, not make me jump out of my seat in fright. Some movies contain incredible messages like “Life is Beautiful” “The Matrix” and “Signs”.

Like I said distraction and fantasy is important, but how much time we spend there is also important and if we are spending more than 10-20% of our time in distraction then the chances are that we are living an unfulfilled life.

Even if you have watched TV most of your life it is never too late to choose again! Burt Goldman started learning interent marketing in his mid 70’s, created some personal growth products and made millions from them. At the age of 79 he took up painting and by 83 he had his work displayed in galleries around the world.

So do yourself, your family and the world a favour…switch off the TV and start crafting your life into the masterpiece that it is waiting to be. You can become a Ninja, Jedi or Badass in any arena you choose!
