Forget “The Secret” and much of the Blarney that you have been taught about success and prosperity!

Much of it is very nice, but often a bit fluffy. The deciding factor on whether you will create success and prosperity in your life, ultimately comes down to one thing and one thing only.

I am fortunate enough to have created much success in my life. I wanted to become an elite soldier, so I joined the Royal Marines Commando’s and became a reconnaissance leader, completing a 5 year very colourful service, even saving some folks lives and receiving  a commendation for courage under fire.

It was a childhood dream that many thought I couldn’t accomplish, largely because I had asthma, but to cut a long story short, I did it!

I also had a childhood dream to become a ninja. Most everyone laughed at this dream and really thought that I was “away with the faeries”. It came to pass that I moved to Japan and sought out the Ninja Grandmaster. I trained with him and his students, reaching  a level of 9th dan black belt so far!

What made me achieve what most thought was impossible. Simple…I surrounded myself with the people that I wanted to emulate. It seems too simple but this really is the great secret and deciding factor on what level of success we will reach in life.

The only way I was ever going to become an elite soldier was to join an outfit where I would be surrounded by and trained by other elite soldiers. if I watched the film Commando and Rambo 100 times and went out into the woods practicing what they did, it would never happen.

Similarly, in martial arts, watching Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee flicks and going to the local  kickboxing club was not going to make me a ninja. No, of course not, I had to go to the source! So I did. I got bounced around the dojo’s on the outskirts of Tokyo until I was forged like a samurai sword that had been folded 2000 times.

I got quite good and was then able to bring this knowledge back to my home town, and as a result, trained hundreds of students and graded a dozen to black belt or above. This is what prosperity is, being able to give and receive and add value.

None of these things could have happened if I did not surround myself with those that would lift me up to their standards, believe in me and teach me in what I needed to learn.

I can look at the things in my life where I have not had much success and see that it was because I didn’t have the support network, and wasn’t surrounding myself with the people who I needed to be around in order to have the success I wanted.

I remember once when I returned home from Japan, I landed a  job as a steel erector. This meant staying in a B&B with the other workers during the week and going home on the weekends. I was put in a room with another guy, whom I worked with, and each evening after work he would rush back to the accommodation to watch Eastenders, which was his favourite soap opera.

I used to laugh at this behaviour and his need to see every episode no matter what. After a few weeks I began to get sucked into the program, as it was on the TV in the room I was in. I couldn’t believe it a month later when I found myself having discussions with this guy at work about the characters in Eastenders, and then we would both rush back in the evening so we could catch the next episode, of this trash soap opera. And then afterwards we spent time guessing what would happen in the next episode.

This is the power of the people we spend our time with, and these days I am very selective of who I spend time with. If we spend time with healthy, fit people, we tend to become healthy and fit. If we spend time with wealthy entrepreneurs then we tend to become wealthy entrepreneurs.

I wanted to create an online income so I went to events where online marketers hung out and taught their strategies, and so after a while I was making my full time income online, working from home.

I recently got introduced to Empower Network and saw that I could turn my yearly income into my monthly income in less than a year. There was a long haired hippie guy called Justin Verrengia who was blogging full time online for 4 years and would eke out a living of between two and three thousand dollars a month for his efforts.
