The Answer To All Life’s Problems – Financially Free In 100 Days #14

On the road to financial freedom it is inevitable that we will encounter obstacles and challenges. We will have bad days!

The question is will we allow the down days stop us or will we use them as learnings and indicators of what we can do better in the future?

The answer to all of life’s problems is not to become financially free, but is balancing our perceptions of mind. We can become financially free and still have many problems, albeit better problems.

When we balance our perceptions then we can neutralise how we perceive events in the sense of being good or bad. It takes a mature mind to be able to do this, especially in the midst of the drama of the event.

When I look back at my life and maybe you can too, I see that all events that I perceived to be bad were actually blessings in disguise.

When I was undergoing my training for the Royal Marines Commando’s I was doing a criteria pass or fail test. It was around month four of basic training were running a nine mile speed march carrying full kit and weapons.

It was uphill all the way on an unusually hot spring day. I prided myself with always finishing in the group and had never fallen behind in the past.

Half way through my lower right leg became numb and my foot started slapping off the ground instead of it’s normal smooth gait. My left leg filled with lactic acid in a bid to compensate for my rebellious right leg and I started really struggling to keep up with the main group.

I completed the speed march in the allowed time, but when my body cooled down, the pain set in, which was excruciating. I knew my leg was broken and sitting in the back of the 8 tonne wagon, it dawned on me that I was going to be back trooped, spending many more months in basic training.

The guys that I had built up a bond with were going to keep going while I would be left behind. I started crying at this stark realisation.

The stress fracture at the top of my tibia meant that I would be in a remedial troop for the next 5 months healing and then getting back to full fitness.

financially free, financial freedom, royal marines training, endurance course, water tunnel, overcoming obstacles

On the last visit to my old troops accommodation I noticed that my face had been blacked out with a marker on the troop photograph. I ripped the photo off the wall and screwed it up into a ball throwing it on the ground. I was in a bad place and was very upset about the whole thing.

My perceptions were lopsided you see and I was only focused on the downside. The upside was then revealed to me over the following months and years.

I became incredibly fit while in the remedial troop and I had a chance to really study all the military skill and tactics that were part of the course.

When I returned to a new troop for the rest of training, I excelled in everything. I got the record for the assault course that year and only a few seconds off the all time record. My soldiering skills had been sharpened and this stood out to the training team who then gave me a level of respect and so did the other recruits in the troop.

There were many upsides, but the best thing was when I completed training I was sent to 42 Commando in the South of England and immediately embarked on an incredible tour to the US and all around the various Caribbean islands and Belize.

In that same year we were sent to the arctic and did all our arctic warfare training. Two of the things that attracted me to the Royal Marines was the jungle and arctic training, and I got to complete it in less than a year out of basic training.

My original troop that I left through injury, were sent to Scotland to guard nuclear submarines for two years, which by all accounts is considered the worst draft a Royal Marine can have. Boring and dreary.

Now when I look back I can see that it was such a blessing that I broke my leg and hopefully by this story it will jog some of your own perceptions into balance.

if you want to become financially free and enjoy it and be at peace with everything in your life then balance your perceptions and you will find the solution to all life’s problems.
