Take Your Brain To The Gym!

We all know that it is a good idea to move our body daily in a way that causes it to get stronger, fitter and more flexible. But what most forget is that our brain, like our body, also needs to be worked out.

It is only really recently that scientists have discovered just how our brains work and just how incredible they are.

We have what is called neuroplasticity and through learning new things and having different experiences we can literally change the internal shape of our brain as new neurotransmitters form and make new neural connections.

Just as we can lift a weight and build a muscle at any age in life, we can also train our brain in different ways at any age as well.

We all have the potential for genius as I often say. It just comes down to training our brain in a certain way.

There are a number of different ways in which we learn and not everybody will respond the same to the linear way of academic classroom teaching, which has gone through very little change over the last century.

Still to this day too many kids get written off as learning disabled because of this.

As a personal trainer I used to find it fascinating how different people responded to the various ways of training. Some responded best to heavy weights, low sets and low reps, while others seemed to build faster with more sets and higher reps.

If you are still not clear on how to train your brain then let me give you an example of what I do.

On a daily basis I read something that is in alignment with what I am looking to master. I generally only read books written by the most outstanding people on the planet, past and present. To become a genius, get inside the head of a genius!

I listen to audio daily, or will watch a video lecture, speech or interview. This can be very powerful as I can hear the tonality and see the use of physiology in getting the message or teaching across.

I will stretch myself daily by doing something that is outside my comfort zone, or something that, consciously, my brain tells me I can’t do.

When we put ourselves ‘on the line’ then our brain has a mechanism that will shift us into a new gear to be able to handle whatever challenge we have set it.

One of the ways I do this is I make a lot of videos that I put on youtube and I also give live trainings and nothing I do is scripted. I just start speaking and trust that my brain will step up and deliver the goods!

I also do the same with my martial arts classes. I may have a rough idea of what I am going to teach, but nothing specific. I just let my unconscious mind step in and teach the class.

I follow the powerful principle of study, do, teach!

Whatever way you choose to train your brain, just remember that you must challenge it. Your brain is made up of millions of glial cells, which number much more than nerve cells.

These cells support the brains neurons and will strengthen and thicken the myelin sheath, which surrounds the nerve cells.

“Nerves of steel” don’t just happen! They are built and reinforced through challenging ourselves in empowering ways!

Todays power question: “What new ways can I challenge and train my brain for a more empowered and inspiring life?”

Todays power statement: “My brain has limitless potential and I can train it and shape it to support my highest aspirations in life!”
