Sink Or Swim – Financial Freedom In 100 Days #23
How much do you want what you want? And is what you want really what you want, or is it a toned down version because you don’t really believe you can have what you really want?
If you truly want what you want then you must want it like a drowning man wants to breathe!
I remember when I was in the Royal Marines training camp, one of the first criteria tests we had to do was the Battle Swim Test. It meant wearing full uniform, plus webbing weights around the waist and a rifle slung around the neck.
One had to jump off the high board into the swimming pool and swim 50 metres, remove all equipment and hand it up to someone without touching the side, and then tread water for three minutes. Sounds easy right?
Well I am a good swimmer and thought that it would be easy enough for me. I was first inline to do it as my name was Armstrong. I was a little complacent when I jumped off the board and so when I hit the water I sank to the bottom of the deep pool very quickly.
I realised at that point that it was going to be more difficult than I first imagined and had to swim hard just to get my head above water.
This was a way for the training team to weed out early, those that didn’t really want it.
The hardest part was taking off the equipment and handing it up, which meant sinking and swallowing some water each time. The temptation to go for plan B and touch the side was massive, so I had to be completely focused on what I wanted to achieve and why I wanted to achieve it.
If I had let myself get distracted for one moment, then it would have been over, so I kept my focus and and my vision in mind. I was going to become a Royal Marines Commando and travel all over the world doing really cool things that most people only dream about.
I had no plan B, it was sink or swim for me and I decided to swim. Nothing was going to stop me, not even the feeling that I was drowning. My focus and my vision was my over ride.
Whatever it is you want you have to want it with every cell in your body. You have to want it like a drowning man wants to breathe, then focus on that thing with single mindedness and unwaivering faith.
