Key Success Factors – Motivation vs Inspiration
Key success factors – Motivation vs Inspiration
There are a number of key success factors in life that will determine our level of achievement and success in all that we do. With these understandings we can move from needing outer motivation to creating inner inspiration.
Go from needing outer motivation to creating inner inspiration
I was in school back in the early 90′s and we had one double period of computer studies every week. We were taught on old bulky computers called BBC. I remember learning very little in those classes, in fact the only thing that I believe I did learn was “garbage in garbage out”.
This was an important lesson, because our brains are just like computers and what we put in there tends to come out. Throughout my teens a lot of garbage went into my brain and I was aware of it. I could observe the silly useless thoughts that went through my mind, the way I talked and the lack of valuable insight I had to offer.
Living in a small town, going to a crappy school (which is most schools) and watching lot’s of rubbish television had this effect on me. There was simply a great deal of garbage going in!
I decided to change this and stopped watching TV when I was 18. The work that I did meant that I had no choice but to spend time with certain people and be in certain places, but there were other things I could do.
I became a serial reader, reading book after book from people who inspired humanity in some way. I was now pouring good stuff in and the more good stuff I poured in the less room there was for the not so good stuff. It got pushed down the search engine rankings of my mind, if you catch my drift.
I then started listening to audio programs and attending seminars and workshops with other outstanding people. Eventually I tipped the scales and it became “good stuff in, good stuff out”.
One of the key factors if not the key factor to success is to associate with successful people, people who you wish to model or emulate in some way. Sometimes in life we can’t physically get around those people at the start so the next best thing is to read their books, listen to their audios and watch their interviews and videos.
At the start it will be like outer motivation and sometimes we need this, but after a while we internalise it and we become what we learn with enough repetition. Then outer motivation is not required as much and we can start to come from a place of inner inspiration and then we will become truly successful at all that we set our minds on accomplishing.
