How To Triple Your Productivity Overnight!

Sometimes I am really productive and other times I struggle to get things done and feel overwhelmed. Can you relate?

But there are a few things that when I put them in place, they literally triple my productivity overnight.

My first and foremost productivity principle is become an early riser. When I looked at the habits of highly successful people, about 80 percent of them made a point of being an early riser and attached great importance to it.

I find that it makes a difference to my whole day. 5am is the optimal time for me and I like to call it Rise@5. If I can get two major tasks ticked off on my daily list before everybody else wakes from their slumber, then my day is off to a great start.

Success is not so much a destination, but something we do everyday, so if we make a point to start off successful then it will most often carry on throughout our day. The key is to install successful habits!

My second productivity principle is to write down your highest priority actions steps for each day and do the ones that are most important first. Quite often we can go about our day only completing low priority actions and give ourselves a really busy and filled day, but not a fulfilled day, because we weren’t doing the things that were really important to us.

It’s no good having our 6 or 7 highest priority action steps written down if we are not doing them! That is why being an early riser is so important. It ensures that we will get at least 2 or more completed before the phone starts ringing and life starts happening.

Psychologically it is simply a very powerful thing to get up early and action your most important tasks for the day.

My third productivity principle is what I call double time. Did you ever have job were you got paid double time, for working on holidays or for overtime? That’s a great feeling. But when you work for yourself how do you work double time.

Double time to an entrepreneur is being able to do two things simultaneously. For example, everyday I like to listen to some sort of educational audio. This is important to me, but if I am not following my productivity principles then it doesn’t happen.

There are a number of times during the day when I am doing something else such as walking or driving, which are ideal times to do this.

The C.E.O of Ryan Air, Michael O’Leary understands this principle very well. He has a chauffeur drive him to and from work everyday which is over an hour each way. During this time he gets a good portion of his days work done.

Curiously enough Michael O’Leary gets chauffeured around in a taxi cab. Why not a comfortable limo, where he can stretch out and put his feet up you might think! Well, Dublin traffic can be a nightmare and there are special lanes for only buses and taxi’s, which he can then take and bypass all the traffic. Smart man!

My next principle for productivity is focus! In todays society we literally have to fight for focus as there are so many distractions all around us.

Studies have shown if we are focused on a creative endeavour and we get distracted or interrupted then it can take 15 minutes just to get back to the point of focus which we initially had.

So depending on what the task is that you want to complete, it is wise to shut out all possible distractions for the duration. This could mean putting a ‘do not disturb’ notice on your door, turning off your phone or closing down all browsers on your laptop. Wondering what time it is can also distract us, so having a timer let us know when our allotted time is up is also a great idea.

The principal of focus also connects to being an early riser as well as there are much less potential distractions when everybody else is sleeping. So make the first one happen and the rest will work for you!

Today power question: “How would my life alter if I was three times more productive?”

Todays power statement: “I am an early riser and a productivity master!”
