How To Track Your Lost Android Phone Without a Tracking App
Two days ago I left my phone on the table in the mum and baby’s group that I attend, and by the time I realised that I didn’t have it and went back to collect it, well as you would guess… It wasn’t there..
So frantically I rushed home to do a search on the internet to see how I could possibly find my phone. Was there a way to track it? Would I ever see it again?
My boyfriend Matthew has an Iphone, and tracking it is really simple. We have an app installed on it called Find iphone. Which I can log into my iCloud from anywhere in the world and it will pinpoint the exact location of my phone. It’s fantastic, even if you have just lost your phone… But of course, I don’t have an iphone, Androind doesn’t have a “Find my Phone” feature and I didn’t have a tracker app installed to find it. Bummer!
Well not really! There is an amazing new service by Google called “Android Device Manager”, and so long as you have your Gmail Account connected to google Play on your phone so that you can download apps, you can log into the Android Device Manager with your google account and with One Click of a button, it will track your phone down to the exact street it is on and give you the option to Lock and Erase it aswell. (Which could come in handy if you think it has been stolen!)
Finding your Android Phone without an App
1. Visit https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager
2. Sign into the Google Account that is connected to your Android Phone
3. Click the “Locate Device” Button at the top of the box.
As it happened, one of the other mums had picked my phone up off the desk and I was able to retrieve it the next day. So all went well, but I learnt something new, and hopefully if will be of use to you if you lose an Android Smart Phone.
