How to get 5 million Views and 16,000 Subscribers on Youtube

I often get asked by people how I have grown my youtube channel to over 5 million views and 16,000 subscribers. I gave it some thought and it boils down to a few key factors and principles. so if you want to be successful with Youtube and even earn enough money to make your full time living from Youtube then pay close attention.

1. The first principle to success with Youtube is to start, and the sooner the better. The best time to start a Youtube channel was in 2006, and the next best time is now! I started my channel in 2009 and it has grown, sometimes plateaued and then grown again until now.

I certainly didn’t do it perfectly and my channel could have been much bigger if I was….

2. Consistent. My channel has enjoyed the most growth when I was consistently making and uploading a video every day. There were times when I didn’t upload a video for 3 months or more. Those were times when I felt discouraged through a lack of results, or when I didn’t feel my best and I was hiding away from the world!

I wanted to be my best when I made a video and I didn’t want to put on some act or pretend I was doing good when I wasn’t, so the third thing I did was…

3. Get real! People appreciate you more when you show your vulnerable side, when you let them know that you are human just like them and have struggles also. But instead of complaining about it, I tell people how I am solving the problem, or what strategy I am using to overcome whatever obstacles present themselves.

It was John Lennon that said, “The more real you become, the more unreal your life becomes.” And this is how it has unfolded for me.

I started showing people more behind the scenes in my life, the various things or projects I was doing and also involved my family more in the videos, which was a great decision. No one cares about a talking head spouting off information. You have to inject humour, feeling and reality into the mix.

What follows on from being real is…

4. Be unique! There is only one of you and you have unique gifts, talents, experiences and personality. The more naturally me I became, the more my Youtube channel grew. During the summer time I rarely have a shirt on my back so I made all my videos throughout the summer not wearing a shirt and strangely enough my views massively increased from that. I was also told that I had attracted a gay following, which I found really amusing.

I started telling personal stories from my life, that had some connection to the topic in the video I was making. Story telling is powerful when done correctly! I told the viewers what was important to me in life, what my heart felt desires and beliefs were and what I valued.

It is a mistake to only talk about you, like it is all about you or something, you also have to…

5. Provide value! The information I deliver on my channel is simply life changing and even life saving according to some viewers who have sent me emails of gratitude and appreciation. But it is not just information, because the internet is choc full of information, so people come to me for the personality that is behind the information. Just giving information is boring.

If the great author Paulo Coelho had instead of writing the 30 million copy best seller “The Alchemist” had instead written a how to book from the teachings of The Alchemist with no story or feeling behind it, do you think it would have been a bestseller? Most definitely not.

6. Model success! Look at other channels that are doing better than yours. I don’t copy anyone and it is a big mistake when people do. It shows through and you will come across as a cheap copy. I look for inspiration, for character traits, for the reasons why that person is a success and I connect the dots.

After bruce Lee died there were copy cats lining up down the street trying to take his place, but they all fell by the wayside, because there was only one bruce Lee. Equally there is only one you, and you are enough. Jackie Chan became the next big name after Bruce Lee, because he didn’t try and copy him, but instead used Bruce’s lead as inspiration to develop his own unique gifts and talents.

Those are my six main tips and understandings of how to build and grow a Youtube channel fast. There are tricks and strategies to growing a Youtube channel much faster than I have grown mine, but those are more technical things that you can find in Youtube training courses. I am not a technical person, so I keep it simple and now stick to the above six principles. Do that and you can’t go wrong.

Just one last thing! You have to engage your audience, first with your video title! If you are allowed to add images to your video then this can be a great strategy, just inserting an interesting eye catching picture to make your video more clickable when it is seen in the side bar can do wonders. Just make sure that the image is relevant to the content.

Lastly make sure that you are engaging in your video. You want your viewers waking up in the morning or driving home form work, looking forward to watching your video when they turn on their computer. Captivate their attention and make an impact on their lives. And that is how you get 16,000 subscribers and over 5 million views on Youtube.
