How To Effectively Manage Your Time And Eliminate Overwhelm
I once bought a time management course and system from a leader in the personal development industry. I won’t mention his name, but it sounded like Boney Bobbins! It was expensive to say the least, one small folder for hundreds of dollars, but I thought I needed it at the time.
For my simple mind, I found it too complex a system and I ended up never using it properly. I then asked Bob Proctor, who is another leader in the personal development and success industry, what he recommended for time management.
Bob Proctor said to me, “There is no such thing as time management. I write things down and then I do them!” To me this was profound, because it was so simple and effective.
If we have the excuse that we don’t have the time to do something, then that something is just not important to us. We do what we place a value on from highest to lowest. What we value is generally what will bring us the least amount of pain and most amount of pleasure.
Sometimes it takes being straight with yourself to find out what it is you truly value. To find this out look at what you spend most of your time doing. If you spend 4 hours a day watching TV then this is probably your number one value.
When you go online, what sites do you visit and for what purpose? You will quickly see what you value by doing this.
So when we say that we didn’t have the time, we are simply lying to ourselves. The truth is that we didn’t prioritise the action that we fooled ourself into thinking that we didn’t have the time for
We all have 24 hours in the day and it is what we decide to do with those 24 hours is what separates those that are outstanding and those that only get mediocre results.
My level of productivity tripled when I started writing down six high priority action steps each day that were going to take me towards my vision. I would do the most important things first and if there were any I didn’t get done then they would go to the top of the list for the next day.
This simple thing alone allowed me to make effective use of my time and at the end of each day I felt content and fulfilled that the most vital actions were carried out, which meant rapid progress towards and in alignment with my vision.
Laser focus is also crucial to be truly productive and make the best use of time. I like to split my day up into two, three hour slots. I will do my first three high priority action steps in the first three hours and my second three in the second slot of three hours.
I will take a ten minute break every 50 minutes and during my work time I will shut off all other distractions so I am only focused on the task at hand. I learned this from Eban Pagan and his course called “Wake Up Productive”.
From my experience this is the most simple way to “manage time” effectively and make rapid laser focused progress towards your dreams and life vision.
Ps: I have just written this blog post while travelling on a plane to Chicago, while virtually everyone else is watching the in-flight movie or playing games on their Ipad’s.
