Why The Law Of Attraction Doesn’t Work For You…but It Does For Jedi’s!!

I read this nice quote from Abraham/Hicks on Facebook.

“You cannot struggle your way to joy, struggle and joy are not on the same channel. You joy your way to joy. You laugh your way to success. It is through your joy that good things come.”

I love Esther and Jerry Hicks and the teachings of Abraham. I have listened to over a hundred hours of their audios and even went to see them live once. Its uplifting stuff for sure and it gives people hope and optimism, but is it accurate?

I would say that much of what they say is accurate, but somethings don’t completely add up and aren’t practical or workable in everyday life. That being said the teachings will be understood by the individual at the level they are at. What Abraham says is for us to learn from, but maybe not to take everything literally.

I have certainly struggled my way to joy on many occasions so the above statement is not true for me. For example there are times when I haven’t felt like going to the gym, but I have forced myself and the whole journey there and workout was a struggle. But afterwards I felt joyful that I made the effort and the I would feel a tremendous sense of well-being from doing the workout itself. So in this case I struggled my way to joy.

I underwent the most demanding infantry and commando training in the world, when I joined the Royal Marines, and let me tell you it was a struggle. But when I completed my training, I was definitely in a very good and joyful state.

Maybe my most powerful example and my biggest struggle was when my wife left me. It was like a sledge hammer in the face. I was distraught and really struggled. I took to binge drinking, smoking weed every day and casual relationships to numb the pain. I realised I had a poor strategy for dealing with my struggles, so after 3 months of this hedonistic behaviour I got to work!

I got a job a s steel erector and worked 13 hours per day, which is one of the most physically demanding and dangerous jobs there is. In the evening I would go to the gym and pump weights. On weekends I would work as a bouncer in a nightclub. In any other spare time I had I would read personal development books and listen to inspiring audios.

I worked my ass off that year and it was a real struggle, but it was focused. I had changed my strategy and was struggling my way to joy! The year after that the law of attraction kicked in and rewarded me for my struggle. That year was much more joyful. I opened a successful business, bought a house and met Victoria amongst many other cool things which also happened.

So can you struggle your way to joy? I believe you can and it has been my experience. I believe the real secret is, what we focus on creates our reality and our attitude shapes that reality.

Even though I don’t agree with everything that Abraham/Hicks says, I will continue to listen to them as it is high level philosophy and challenges me to question various belief systems that I may have incorporated into my thinking.

So by the way, if you think that the law of attraction isn’t working for you it is because you need two things firing in alignment. You need an effective strategy and you need to work your ass off! This is how jedi’s do it and it works for them! 🙂
