Day 19 Walking The Camino De Santiago – Castrojeriz to Poblacion
Wow, what a day this was! The Camino De Santiago really does have a mind of it’s own and I can see it testing us with all sorts of obstacles and challenges.
The weather was unbelievable today, literally the biggest shifts in weather patterns that I have ever seen in one day.
The Albergue in Castrojeriz was beautiful, it felt like a yoga centre and the hospitalero was a very humble man and he loved Indigo. He was afraid of us leaving that morning because of the uncertain weather and he was concerned for Indigo.
By now we knew what we could and couldn’t do and anything up to a tornado we could pretty much do. Indigo was very well wrapped up in triple the amount of layers as me, plus he had the body heat from Victoria as he was on her front in the ergo baby carrier. She also wore a ponch with a zip down the front, which kept Indigo dry and wind proofed.
The wind and rain ease and it turned into a beautiful sunny day for about an hour, and then we were hit by heavy hail stones. I joked on camera that the only thing we hadn’t encountered was a tornado!
The town that we had planned on staying in had no albergues open so we carried on walking into some of the most severest weather I had ever encountered as we walked into the last light of the day. A wind came that almost took us off our feet and a dark mass came towards us and with it side ways rain that felt like nails shooting into our legs.
I held Victoria’s hand and leant into the sideways wind, so her and Indigo were sheltered somewhat and we carried on walking. No other choice as we were in the open and had to make it to the next village. The tornado passed behind us and an incredible sunset appeared which we walked towards in awe.
Darkness fell and we arrived in the small village of Poblacion and into the albergue which was a converted cottage. We were met by friendly faces, pilgrims who we had seen a few times before. We walked 33 kilometres that day and it took us 10 hours in total. Like I said, “wow, what a day”!
P.S.We are able to take a month out to walk the camino as we earn a passive residual income online. Want to do the same? Just click below to find out more.
