I Was Wrong! “I Pity The Fool” Who Thinks They Are Always Right!
Have you ever been wrong in your life? Everyone gets it wrong sometimes and everyone makes mistakes. This is what it is to be human. In the words of Mr T. “I pity the fool” who thinks that they are always right and won’t accept their own wrongness.
For example, yesterday I wrote that when you receive the call to adventure you must go and keep going. In your case, I could be completely wrong and the call that you receive may be disguised as a call to adventure, but is really a temptation into an evil realm that could mean certain death.
This is why discernment is important and your ability to cultivate this sensory acuity and know when to act or when to stay put! Questions that you want to ask yourself are “will this compromise my moral values?” “Is it unethical?” “Is this a reckless pursuit that will put others in needless danger?”
Don’t listen to me, I am simply offering you ideas, insights and principles. It is up to you to assimilate this knowledge and then listen to your own internal wisdom. What does your heart say? What is the feeling in your gut? You must be able to distinguish whether you are being stopped by simple fears, or is it really a deeper intuition and it is not a good idea to accept this call to adventure.
Many calls that you will receive are simply distractions from your true journey. Maybe you are working on an important project and a friend comes along and says “Hey we are all going trekking for a week in Nepal. You must come with us.”
This may be a call to adventure, or it may be a temptation to distract you from completing your project. Knowing when to say ‘no’, is a skill that you can develop through experience and self awareness.
If you are not sure about whether to say no or yes to something, then simply sit in meditation for 20 minutes and you will be more clear on what decision to make at the end of it. Or ask yourself the question before you go to sleep and ask your internal wisdom to give you the right answer when you wake.
Writing things down can also bring clarity as well. Write down all the benefits and disadvantages. What fears come up when you think about doing this. Ask yourself the question “Whats the worst thing that can happen?” “Whats the best thing that can happen?” “Whats more important to me out of these two answers?”
Also bear in mind that your decision will not always be rational either and can seem like the craziest hair brain thing in the world to everyone else, but something in your gut tells you that it is right for you.
See, I am just giving you ideas, strategies and principles to work with. What you do in life is up to you…and isn’t that just amazing!
So I will leave you with this today. The call to conform to societies ways is something we all receive on a daily basis. This is the call that it is usually wise to reject and instead set your own course and boldly embark on it.
With appreciation,
Matthew Armstrong
