Uncommon Leadership Principles of the Jedi!
Leadership principles of the Jedi!
My understanding and point of view on leadership differs to what many others teach about leadership.
When I was younger I liked the idea of being a leader, but I didn’t think I was cut out for it—I didn’t have the personality of a leader—or so I thought!
I thought that leaders were loud mouths and had controlling personalities. I wanted to be able to influence people in a positive and empowering way, but was not prepared for such a personality shift.
The truth is that everyone has the potential to be a leader. The qualities of a leader have little to do with personality and much more to do with attitude!
It is our attitude that determines our altitude. So leadership is about rising above mediocrity and having courage in our convictions.
Just as conformity is the opposite of courage, it is also the opposite of leadership.
Leaders have a clear and compelling vision and know were they are going. The inspiring vision gives the leader certainty and others are naturally attracted to this.
The leader will have mentors of his or her own-wise old sages who can guide them and offer wisdom as it is needed.
Some people believe that a leader is someone who takes you by the hand and guides you safely around the various obstacles and pitfalls on your path, but this is not so.
A true leader has the intention of bring out the best in those that he or she is surrounded by, so will often allow you to make mistakes, fall down and experience the feeling of defeat.
The leader knows that they became who they are through their struggle—by experiencing defeat and so called failure—by not knowing the way and having to tap into unconscious resources that they didn’t know they had.
The true leader is not swayed by likes and dislikes. They understand that there will be a natural balance and so they choose to stay true to their character with the knowledge that this is the best way that they can serve others.
Leaders are those that are examples of what is possible. They demonstrate that which others wish to emulate and inspire through their actions.
I will leave you with this analogy to sum up. When a butterfly is ready to break out of their cocoon, if you help them by breaking it for them and opening it up the butterfly will not be prepared for the new world and it will die.
The struggle it has to go through to break itself out of the cocoon, strengthens its wings, so eventually when the butterfly breaks through into the new world, it is well prepared and fly’s away.
Today power question: “How can I step up and be an even better example of leadership?”
Today power statement: “I am a natural and powerful leader and I allow myself to be myself!”
