Three Tips To Build Confidence And Overcome Fear – Instant Confidence
Confidence isn’t something you have, it is something that you do!
Confidence is actually easy, as easy as one, two, three. When you learn these three simple tips, you will be able to overcome fear and create instant confidence any time you wish. The more you remember and practice these three steps, the more confidence will become your natural habitual state.
The first tip is what are you doing with your body right now? Do you even know? Are you sitting with good strong posture or are you slumped with one hand on your chin?
As a life long exponent of the martial arts, I know that the difference between winning and losing is not technique, but confidence, and that confidence is created before the technique happens with what we do with our body.
I know that as long as I am standing in a stronger stance than my opponent or attacker, then I have the advantage. My stance will then give me the confidence to execute my technique in the most effective way.
A great way to test this out is to think of an event in the future, something that is outside your comfort zone, and put your self in a poor posture while contemplating it. You will notice that fear and apprehension rear it’s ugly head.
Now shift your body and sit or stand in a place of complete confidence and certainty. Open your rib cage, lift your chest and breathe deeply. Make sure that your spine is straight you are looking up and your weight is balanced, and feel all those feelings of complete and instant confidence.
The second tip for instant confidence is to have a compelling vision and a powerful reason why we want it. The bigger our reason why, the more confidence we will have to attain it. A reason why will give us leverage and allow us to take action and the more action we take, the more confidence we will develop.
I remember as a child walking home from the swimming pool, there was some rough ground that I used to walk across in bare feet. Every step was painful and I used to awkwardly make my way across it. One day some kids took a dislike to me and chased me at the same time hurling stones at me.
I sprinted across the stoney ground in my bare feet like it was nothing, and it was nothing, compared to what was at stake if I didn’t. Sometimes in life we need to really look at what is at stake if we don’t take the actions towards our dreams and aspirations.
The Third step to instant confidence is to take our focus off ourselves and put it onto serving others. Public speaking is a big fear for most people, because most people are thinking, “I hope I do a good job, what if people don’t like me and what if I mess up and look stupid”?
I know because that was me at one time. But then I took my focus off thinking such selfish things and put it onto serving my audience to the best of my ability. I stopped thinking about myself and started thinking about others with the question “How can I serve these people to the best of my ability”?
This creates an instant shift, fear disappears and confidence takes over, and it is as marvellous and simple as that!
